Knitted wire mesh and demister

The knitted wire mesh is a special woven wire mesh. It is the main component used in the production of wire mesh demisters, oil and gas separators, dust removal, environmental protection, engine silencer, mechanical shock absorption, etc.

Knitted wire mesh and demister

Knitted wire mesh is a special woven metal wire mesh ( or plastic wire mesh ) . It is usually woven from multiple layers (usually 2-3 layers) of metal wires (such as stainless steel 304, 316L, monel alloy, titanium alloy, etc.) or plastic wires (such as PP, PTFE, etc.) with different mesh counts (or wire diameters).

                                                                                                                                                      Knitted wire mesh

The core features of Knitted wire mesh

◆1. High efficiency separation performance

Ultrafine droplet capture: can efficiently separate tiny droplets larger than 1μm (high-perform ance models can reach 0.1μm), with a separation efficiency of more than 99%.

Multi-layer composite structure: usually composed of 2-3 layers of wire mesh with different mesh sizes (such as inner layer coarse mesh support + outer layer fine mesh fog capture), taking into account both liquid holding capacity and separation accuracy.

◆2. Low pressure drop characteristics

Special weaving process: The wavy (herringbone/corrugated) design greatly increases the effective contact area, reduces air flow resistance, and the pressure drop is usually only 50~500Pa.

Open structure: Multiple layers of mesh form a tortuous channel to avoid airflow blockage.

◆3. Strong corrosion resistance and temperature resistance

Material diversity:

Metals: 304/316L stainless steel (general purpose), Hastelloy (strong acid), titanium (chlor-alkali industry)

Non-metallic: PP (below 80°C), PTFE (260°C strong corrosive environment)

Temperature resistance: metal mesh can reach 480℃ (stainless steel), PTFE mesh can reach 260℃.

◆4. High mechanical strength and anti-scouring

The wire diameter ranges from 0.1 to 0.4 mm, and the warp and weft density are scientifically designed to withstand air flow velocities of 6 m/s (vertical equipment) to 15 m/s (horizontal pipes).

◆5. Self-cleaning and anti-blocking design

After the droplets gather on the mesh surface, they automatically drip down by gravity, without the need for backwashing and cleaning (except under special working conditions).

Knitted wire mesh achieves gas-liquid separation through the combination of inertial collision + direct interception + diffusion capture, and is mainly used in the following scenarios:

Application Areas

Specific scenarios

Core Values

Chemical/Petrochemical

Distillation tower top vapor defoaming, reactor exhaust demisting, absorption tower tail gas treatment

Prevent catalyst poisoning, recover solvents, and improve product purity

Environmental Engineering

Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) post-demist, VOCs treatment device, exhaust gas scrubber

Eliminate "gypsum rain", meet emission standards, and avoid secondary pollution

Pharmaceutical/Food

Fermentation tank exhaust and sterilization foam, spray drying tail gas recovery, clean workshop compressed air oil and water removal

Comply with GMP standards, protect sterile environment, and reduce raw material losses

Energy and Power

Gas turbine inlet air deliquescence, geothermal steam separation, nuclear power plant steam drying

Prevent turbine corrosion and ensure power generation efficiency

HVAC and Refrigeration

Evaporator gas-liquid separation, freeze dryer exhaust

Improve energy efficiency and prevent compressor liquid shock

Offshore Platform

Natural gas dehydration, crude oil flash tank gas phase defoaming

Reduce pipeline corrosion and ensure transportation safety

Knitted wire mesh needs to be assembled into demister components for use. Common forms include:

Wire mesh demister : accounts for more than 80% of the market, the filter screen is pressed into a 150mm thick standard module and used on the top of the tower.

Blade demister : combines corrugated plates and wire mesh to handle high liquid content gas flows (such as flue gas desulfurization).

Pipeline demister : directly installed in the process pipeline, compact design.

A demister (also called a demister, a foam collector, or a gas-liquid separator) is a complete device or equipment assembly. Its core part is assembled from Knitted wire mesh in a specific structural form (such as wire mesh blocks, blades, cyclones, etc.), and is equipped with support frames, grilles, pressure strips and other fixings.

Knitted wire mesh and demister are used together to efficiently and reliably remove entrained liquid droplets or foam from flowing gas to protect equipment, improve process efficiency, recover products and meet environmental protection requirements. It is very common in towers, containers and piping systems.
